What is Square Footage Fraud?
When a seller or landlord lies about the size of a property to make more money.
Square Footage Fraud has spread like a silent cancer throughout the industry as the new norm. It's everywhere. You are likely a victim and don't even know it. With no central authority, real estate developers, builders, and managers, have been getting away with it for decades. Honestly, who measures their new home or apartment when moving in? Nobody....until now. They've lined their pockets through lies and greed. Now it's time for them to pay.
How You May Be Compensated
Apartments
You may be entitled to a percentage of the cost of your rent equal to the percentage of square footage fraud multiplied by the length of your lease.
Example:
Suppose you leased an apartment advertised at 1,000 square feet with a monthly rent of $2,500. We measure and learn the apartment is only 850 square feet—in this example, you've been defrauded of 15% of your square footage. In this example, you would be entitled to 15% of your rent times the length of your contract (usually 12 months). 15% of $2,500 times 12 months is $4,500. If the fraud was done knowingly, you may be entitled up to three times that amount, $13,500.
Houses and Condominiums
You may be entitled to a percentage of the cost of your purchase contract equal to the percentage of square footage fraud.
Example:
Suppose you purchased a home for $1,350,000 advertised at 5,000 square feet. We measure and learn the house is only 4,250 square feet—in this example, you've been defrauded of 15% of your square footage. In this example, you may be entitled to 15% of the cost of the house. Using this example, 15% of $1,350,000 is $202,500.If the fraud was done knowingly, you may entitled up to three times that amount, $607,500.
